Your Questions and Our Answers

Got questions about your Uganda adventure? We’ve got clear, honest answers to get you pumped and prepared.

Is Uganda safe?

Yes, Uganda is considered a safe destination for tourists, especially in areas frequented by travelers such as national parks and safari regions. At Binary Safaris Adventures, we prioritize your safety by working with local experts, knowledgeable guides, and secure transport services. Like with any international travel, basic precautions are advised (e.g., avoid walking alone at night in cities, follow guide instructions during safaris).

How do I get a visa?

Most travelers, including from the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and EU countries, can apply for a Uganda eVisa online.

  • Visit the official Uganda eVisa portal
  • Choose a Tourist Visa
  • Upload passport copy, recent photo, and yellow fever certificate
  • Pay online (approx. $50 USD)
  • Approval usually takes 2–5 business days
Binary Safaris can guide you through this step during your booking.

What vaccinations do I need?

  • Yellow Fever: Mandatory for entry (bring your certificate)
  • Recommended: Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Rabies (if prolonged stay or close animal interaction)
  • Malaria: Uganda is a malaria-risk country, so take malaria prophylaxis as advised by your doctor.
Consult a travel clinic 4–6 weeks before your trip for personalized advice.

How long is the flight from the USA?

From the USA to Uganda (Entebbe International Airport), average flight times are:

  • New York / East Coast: 17–20 hours
  • Los Angeles / West Coast: 20–25 hours
All flights typically involve 1 or 2 stopovers (e.g., in Europe, Middle East). We assist with route planning and airport transfers.

What is gorilla trekking?

Gorilla trekking is a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife adventure where you hike through tropical forests to find and observe endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
In Uganda, this takes place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Treks usually last 2–6 hours, and you’ll spend 1 hour with a gorilla family—an unforgettable encounter.

When is the best time of the year to trek the Mountain Gorillas?

The dry seasons offer the best trekking conditions:

  • June to September
  • December to February

Trails are less muddy, visibility is better, and gorillas are easier to locate. However, gorilla trekking is possible year-round.

What’s the best time for gorilla trekking?

While dry seasons are preferred, Bwindi has a dense forest ecosystem, so some rain is always possible.
For fewer crowds and potential discounts, consider March–May or October–November (wet seasons).

When should I book my gorilla trekking permit / tour?

Book at least 3–6 months in advance, especially for high season (June–Sept, Dec–Feb).
Permits are limited to protect gorilla families and sell out quickly. Binary Safaris will secure your permit as part of your package—hassle-free.

How much is the gorilla trekking permit in Uganda?

As of now (2025 rates):

  • $800 USD per person for foreign non-residents
  • $700 USD for foreign residents in East Africa
  • UGX 300,000 for East African citizens
Binary Safaris includes this in your itinerary pricing and handles all arrangements.

What is included in a Gorilla Permit?

  • Entry into the national park (Bwindi or Mgahinga)
  • 1-hour guided visit with a gorilla family
  • Professional ranger guides and trackers
  • Conservation support to protect gorillas and habitats
Permits do not cover transport, meals, or accommodation—but we take care of all that for you!

What is the cost of a gorilla trekking tour in Uganda?

Tours vary based on duration and luxury level:

  • Budget (3 Days): from $1,200 USD
  • Mid-range (4–5 Days): $1,800–$2,500 USD
  • Luxury (5–10 Days): $3,500+ USD
All tours by Binary Safaris include: permit, guide, meals, lodging, transfers, park fees, and activities.

What’s included in the safari?

With Binary Safaris Adventures, your Uganda safari package includes:

  • Gorilla trekking or game drives (depending on tour)
  • Accommodation (budget to luxury)
  • All meals during the tour
  • 4×4 safari vehicle & professional driver/guide
  • All park entrance fees
  • Bottled water during activities
  • Airport transfers
  • Emergency support

What age is allowed to trek the mountain gorillas?

Uganda Wildlife Authority requires a minimum age of 15 years for gorilla trekking. This is for safety and to reduce disturbance to the gorillas. If you’re traveling with younger children, we offer alternate family-friendly activities nearby.

What to pack for your gorilla trekking tour?

Essential items:

  • Waterproof hiking boots
  • Lightweight long-sleeve shirts & trousers
  • Rain jacket or poncho
  • Gloves (for grabbing vegetation)
  • Hat & sunglasses
  • Insect repellent & sunscreen
  • Small backpack
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Camera (no flash!)
  • Gaiters (optional for muddy terrain)

We’ll send you a complete packing list after booking.

What are the chances of seeing the mountain gorillas during the gorilla trek?

Very high—over 95%.
Trackers go ahead of your group early in the morning to locate gorilla families. Thanks to expert guidance and planning, you’re almost guaranteed to find them. Our team at Binary Safaris ensures you’re in experienced hands.

How many people per gorilla family?

Each gorilla family is visited by a maximum of 8 tourists per day.
This limit minimizes disturbance and allows for a more intimate, respectful experience. It’s another reason early booking is essential.
